What is Glycerol?

Glycerin is also called glycerin. Pure glycerin is a colorless, odorless, sweet viscous liquid. The boiling point is 290°C, the melting point is 17.9°C, and the relative density is 1.2613. Infinitely miscible with water, anhydrous glycerin is strongly hygroscopic.Glycerin is an organic compound known formally as glycerol. Its common source from vegetable oils. Glycerin is a colourless, odourless, nontoxic, viscous liquid at room temperature, and it has a sweet taste.

Application

1.Cosmetics

An important use of glycerine is in the cosmetics and personal care industry. It is commonly found in skincare products due to its emollient properties. It is an excellent moisturizer and helps to keep the skin soft and supple. It is also used in hair care products such as shampoos and conditioners to add moisture and shine to the hair. 

2. Food industry 

Glycerine also has a wide range of applications in foods and beverages: used as Sweetener, Humectant, Texture, Enhancer, Preservative, Solvent and Carrier. It is widely used in foods, beverages, baked foods, chewy confections, ice creams, sorbets, frozen desserts, dried fruits.

3) In the coatings industry, it is used for making all kinds of alkyd resin and polyester resin, epoxy resin and glycidyl ether.
4) In textile and printing industry, it is used for preparing wetting agent hygroscopic agent, fabric anti-creasing shrink proof treatment agent, dispersant and penetrating agent.
5) In the food industry , it is used as sweetener, tobacco hygroscopic agent and solvent.
